Mom's Recipes - Part IV

Dal (:
Ingredients:
  1. 1 cup dal
  2. 6 cloves of garlic
  3. 2 small onions (chopped)
  4. 1tsp salt
  5. 1tsp turmeric
  6. Mustard oil
  7. Red chillies

Method:

Soak dal for 1hr. Wash. Put enough water to submerge dal 1 finger. Chop garlic and onions in round circles (half of it); chop the rest in long slices (juliennes).
Boil the dal with turmeric, salt, round onions and garlic; cover lid with a heavy stone. Boil slowly for 15min.
Use 'ghutni' (stirrer) to mush the dal. Add 1 mug hot water. Add coriander. Boil till 1 boil and turn off heat.
For the 'bagaar':
Heat oil. Fry long garlic, chillies and onions till they become golden-brown. Add this [barista] to hot dal.

Serve with hot, fluffy white rice. :)
